Project Homelessness Connect ~ United Way Day of Action

Project Homeless Connect "Connecting People with Community Services" is Monday April 4, 2011 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Halenbeck Hall, St Cloud State University.  Project Homeless Connect is a one day event for individuals experiencing homelessness who will be able to access multiple services in one convenient location. The goal is to draw upon the services of the community to address the issue of homelessness in the St Cloud Area, as well as educating and assisting community members in the commitment to fight against homelessness in St. Cloud.  Multiple volunteer opportunities are available to help make the event a success such as set up, take down, assist guests, monitor child areas, collect surveys and thank guests. One hour training is required for all volunteers.  To see a list of volunteer opportunities and to register, visit  www.unitedwayhelps.org.

Llama Llama Read-A-Rama 2011 ~ United Way Day of Action

Llama Llama Read-A-Rama is a St. Cloud Area community initiative to encourage reading with children, starting at birth. The St. Cloud Times and United Way of Central Minnesota Success By 6 are working with community partners to move this important message forward. The fun continues from Thursday April 14 to Saturday April 16, 2011. Volunteers can read to children and assist with projects in preschools, Headstart, Boys and Girls Clubs, and elementary school locations. Volunteers can also help with the pajama party kick off event the evening of April 14. All readers are encouraged to talk about their work/daily life as part of their volunteer experience so children hear about the importance of reading in everyday activity. If you have a professional uniform, we would encourage you to contact the reading site and request to wear it.  Contact Mary Krippner or Amber Hake, United Way of Central Minnesota at (320) 252-0227
